Santa to visit the Shrewsbury town centre light switch on
SHREWSBURY SEVERN ROTARY CLUB
EXCITING NEW SANTA SLEIGH ON SHOW AT LIGHTS SWITCH-ON
Santa will have his exciting new sleigh on show for the opening of Shrewsbury’s town centre Christmas lights on November 19.
Although the sleigh made a full introduction during last year’s Christmas activities, it wasn’t quite ready in time to make its debut at the lights switch-on.
With some minor modifications and a ‘good clean-up’ after 10 months in storage, the sleigh is now in top condition to greet visitors to Pride Hill for the event on the 19th of the month.
“We are looking forward to showing more people all the exciting features of the new sleigh when it appears for the first time on Pride Hill,” said Rotarian Johnathan Callwood, president of Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club which has built and financed the investment.
“The new version has many more features than the old sleigh which had been a good servant for Santa, but had fallen behind the times. The latest model is environmentally friendly with a new battery system to power the lights and music.
“Now we have something really special to excite the audience at the lights switch-on.”
Santa and his sleigh will arrive on Pride Hill at 5.00 pm for a three-hour appearance that will take in the switch-on of the lights.
Following the event Santa and the sleigh will have a brief rest before embarking on an ambitious rota of daytime supermarket visits and evening street excursions starting on December 2 and finishing on December 23.
This will form Rotary’s major annual fundraising activity programme in support of local charities and other good causes.

I volunteer for the Shrewsbury Food Hub, helping to redistribute food, to save it from waste
Shrewsbury Food hub do an extraordinary job saving food from going to waste, and distributing it to community groups, schools and many worthy people.
The companies that donate their excess produce includes Many of the main supermarkets large and small food manufacturers
Without their help of donations, and the many volunteers , the Shrewsbury food hub would not function

After the orchard adventure, for our volunteers it was all hands on deck at the depot. Of course, Tammy and John had to work out what the fruit pickers do before diving into the serious task of sorting, packing, and prepping this fabulous fruit for redistribution. 🙌
With plums now joining the harvest, the big question is…
🍏 Apple pie?
🍐 Pear tart?
🍑 Plum crumble?
Mine's apple crumble (maybe adding a few plums).... What's yours?? 👇

Rotary Club of Shrewsbury's Severn New Santa Sleigh 🛷
Following cancellation of last year’s switch-on of Shrewsbury’s Christmas lights, a Rotary Santa is looking forward to the return on Wednesday.
Shrewsbury Severn Rotary’s Santa will be returning to the club’s familiar spot at the bottom of Pride Hill for a three-hour stint from 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm.
Santa is looking forward to meeting and greeting many enthusiastic youngsters during the three hours on what will be a first for Shrewsbury – a brand new ultra-modern sleigh.
The new design is different from any sleigh that has ever been designed and built before. And it will be visiting some of the famous streets and supermarkets in Shrewsbury throughout the Christmas period.
Said Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club president David Morris: “We are hoping that the attraction of Santa and our brand new sleigh will attract many families to the switch-on during the three hours.
“We are hoping the event will help us raise several hundred pounds for local charities.”

Rotary club of Shrewsbury Severn's recent tour of the Shrewsbury Flax mill .
On Fri 13th October about a dozen of the Shrewsbury Severn Rotaty members visited the Shrewsbury Flax Mill and were treated to a tour of the Mill and Maltings, this was particularly enjoyable because as a wheelchair user I had been unable to access the main building due to their brand new lifts being inoperable, following lengthy communication with English Heritage, they were fixed and we enjoyed the tour

Here is The latest update on the serious problem of an overgrown hedge on Ellesmere Road in Shrewsbury, causing many problems for pedestrians and wheelchair users like myself. The Shropshire Council have been notified many times about this, but still have not addressed the problem, either by issuing an enforcement notice on the land owner (it's a developer) or cutting it themselves and charging the landowner!
This is a serious matter and could potentially cause a serious collision
